Jadah and I are sooooo incredibly excited to announce our first weekly contributing writer, Melissa Allen of Green Owl Art. Melissa will be launching our KIDS+ART section, which will air every Wednesday and provide ways to incorporate art into our children’s lives.
Aside from being an incredible mom, Melissa is an artist and has been blogging about ways to get your kids into art. She is a stay at home mama to two beautiful babes, Emma, 4 and Grayson, 1. Melissa strongly believes that art should be an essential part of a child’s life.
“I watch my children grow and learn through art everyday. I have always been an artist my entire life and dabbled in pretty much every form, but when I became a mother it was a bit challenging for me to find ways for my children to be involved.” —Melissa Allen
After much trial and error, Melissa has found that children are born artists with amazing imaginations ready to create. We just need to help them embrace their creative mind. Be sure to check out Green Owl Art and also her first article for Family Sponge: DIY Calming Jar, which airs tomorrow morning.

Thanks Jen and Jadah, for all you do! I am so excited to be a part of it. This is going to be fun….
Welcome Melissa, good to see how you are inspiring other artists with your passion. I have lost my touch with my artistry since having my child. Even though she loves drawing everyday. It is tough finding the time to make my own masterpieces. So I look forward to hearing about your stories and seeing fun results.
Looking forward to Melissa’s inspiration. Art and children go hand-in-hand. Welcome aboard the Family Sponge.
Melissa they couldn’t of invited a more qualified person to write for them. Good Luck!
Hi Melissa, as you know, I “love” all the projects you do and I can’t wait for my new Grandson Max to be old enough to try his hands creating things. As soon as his little hands can grasp things, we will be off following your wonderful ideas!! Good luck at Family Sponge they sure have a great writer to help launch their kids + art section. xoxo
