The benefits of eating whole foods like fruits and vegetables is obvious when making a healthy smoothie for your family. But don’t forget to add protein which is one of four macronutrients (the other three are fats, carbohydrates and water). The body needs macronutrients in large amounts, so don’t miss the opportunity to give your family the protein it needs in a daily smoothie.
Because protein burns slower than carbohydrates, adding it to smoothies helps prevent blood sugar spikes and helps prevent hunger pains. And it’s also great if you are working towards a flat belly or building muscles. Yes, moms are on a mission to get those firm abs back and drinking a protein rich smoothie after your ab work-out is the perfect formula.
So now that you see the benefits of adding protein to your blended smoothies, here’s a smoothie full of protein for you and your family:
Power Protein Smoothie
1 banana
1 cup fresh strawberries
1 cup frozen blueberries
10 whole almonds
1 cup filtered water
4 tablespoons vanilla flavored protein powder
Additional protein options: Flaxseed (seeds or oil), Hemp Protein Powder, Chocolate Protein Powder, Whey Protein Powder, Silken Tofu, Soymilk, Non-fat Greek Yogurt, Cottage Cheese, Peanut or Almond Butter

This doesn’t sound too bad at all… I definitely want to try this! I don’t have a blender, but I have been thinking of getting one…. Now that I’ve seen all of these smoothies and their benefits, I’m definitely getting one!!! <3 Thanks for sharing your knowledge of all things wonderful & healthy!! <3
It’s awesome Autumn! I have been blending for 2 years now and tonight I pulled it out as a last resort. My 2 and 4 yr olds didn’t each much for dinner and I get nervous about putting them to bed on an empty stomach. So I blended 2 bananas, strawberries, kale, spinach, some orange juice and water together. They downed it and went to bed full and nutrient rich! Can’t wait to hear what you think about it— all these recipes really taste good!
Gotta get some vanilla protein powder to try this out or can I make it without and use one of the listed protein sources such as almond powder? What about using almond milk instead of soymilk? Would I use almond milk in place of water
Made this for me and my toddler using almond milk and almond butter instead of almonds, water, and protein powder. We both loved it! This will be one we will make again for our Mommy and Me smoothie time together
Guess you can say my newborn is also enjoying the yummy goodness too since she is breastfed
