Purple Power Juice

Purple Power Juice 2

Written by contributor Britney Manuel of BtanJerine and A Simply Raw Life

Every year I like to try to do a juicing cleanse as a way to reset my body, and to be more conscience of what I am putting into it. This go round I wanted to mix up some of the juices that I would be making so that I wouldn’t get bored by the second day. The gals over at Simple Green Smoothies wrote a great article on juicing vs. blending and you can read more of the benefits of juicing here.

Juicing and having something beautiful to drink is just as important as the drink tasting good, and having nutritional value.

Because as they say, “you eat with your eyes first.” The rich merlot color of this juice is both beautiful and vibrant. And the tots will love it, why you ask?… Well for those that have an aversion to green there is no hint of anything green in this drink even though it has a fair share of veggies. The beets camouflage any greens that are put into this drink, so the kiddos will never even know! And it doensn’t taste green. If  you proportion it right the major taste will be apple, with low notes of the ginger and beet. Continue Reading →

Dying easter eggs naturally

ying easter eggs naturally

Written by contributor Melissa Allen of Green Owl Art

I am a little bit addicted to holiday crafts, food, celebrations, decorations and all else that goes along with each and every special holiday. Some traditions I have done since I was a child and I continue to enjoy these special traditions with my own children and some we have created as a family. Either way with each celebration that comes there is excitement in the air and wonderful new memories made filled with much laughter and love. Continue Reading →

Sticks and Stones : Dealing with Verbal Abuse From Your Child

Written by contributor Arianna Carlson of For the Love of Motherhood

“Sticks and stones may break my bones
But names will never hurt me.”  – Unknown

I’d argue that whoever wrote the popular nursery rhyme didn’t have a four year old who called them names.  Not just names, mind you, but straight to the heart hateful words, like “I hate you,” “I will kill you,” or “You’re an idiot.”

Really?  From a four year old?  What have I done to deserve this? Continue Reading →

5 Tips to an Awesome Fun Fest!

Happy Family Movement family fun inspiration

Written by Josh and Jenny Solar of The Happy Family Movement

First off, what exactly is a Fun Fest you ask? Here’s the thing…it’s SO simple. You pick a day (we usually declare a fun fest the night before), and you do nothing but have fun! That’s it! We’ve done a few Fun Fests now, and I want to tell you, they are the best days ever! We don’t leave the house, we stay in our jammies, the kids are involved in every aspect of it, so it’s a true family affair. The other cool thing about a fun fest is that it costs nothing. It’s simple, it’s free, and everyone has a blast. What more could you ask for?

We came up with the idea of Fun Fest in December of 2010 when we were snowed in. The kids were getting stir crazy, and we were too. We had to do something, so we decided to have a day where we did nothing but have fun, with each other. And, so, Fun Fest was born. Continue Reading →

Small steps towards a healthier life

the honest company

When I was pregnant with Jackson five years ago, I embarked on the healthy eating, natural living journey. The realization that I was bringing a person into the world opened my eyes and made me rethink what I was eating, buying and doing with my time. It wasn’t just about me and my hunky husband anymore— it was about that little ball of energy growing inside my belly and the beautiful family that had begun.

So I bought organic sheets. Then a Moby. And next an Ergo. And eventually I found myself standing in the grocery store paying $7 for organic milk. And then I switched to rice milk. And finally settled on almond milk. I told you— it is truly a journey!

I cut back on my trips to Taco Bell and spent more time in Trader Joe’s.

Once I dove into the world of the “green mama,” I realized how easy, doable and fun it actually was.

Take The Honest Company, for example. Their name says it all. They create household products your family can trust. They work hard to create unquestionably safe, eco-friendly, beautifully designed, and affordable essentials for your family. And they come right to your doorstep— pretty sweet when you are a new mom with spit up on your clothes and boobs that seemed to always spring a leak.

I have been using The Honest Company Family Essentials Bundle for the past few months and love the concept and products behind it all. Here are some of my favorites so far:

Coconut Caramel Recipe

coconut caramel

Written by contributor Britney Manuel of A Simply Raw Life & BtanJerine

I came from a heritage of great Martha Stewart-esque cooks that make their own peanut butter, jams, and the like. So it was no wonder when we made homemade caramel….that it was TO DIE FOR! Since I liked it (a little too much), I wanted to try to find a non dairy version that didn’t sacrifice flavor, (that was the challenge). I was inspired by the recipe found here for some salted caramel tartlets. Once I saw it, I knew a new go-to caramel was born!
