Last fall, I had the most amazing opportunity to spend two weeks in the Netherlands with my sister. No kids, no significant others— just sister time. It was long overdue and definitely worthwhile. While biking through the streets of Haarlem, we saw this awesome family bike. I love it! Looks like you can fit an adult, two kids and a baby (there is a carseat attachment on the back). Talk about fun family adventures!
I am currently on the Craigslist prowl for bikes that can accommodate our kids. Maybe not as intense as this one, but I want a basket for groceries and a seat on the back for a kid. When I find one, I will let you all know. Until then, I’ll just dream and spend my nights scouring Craigslist.
Are you a bike family? Or do you dream about being one?

I love sister time. The very first time just the three of us got to get away, with not spouse, no children, was to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Here’s the link to that trip:

Sister time = fun time! Love that bike, and would love to see a family peddling along, such a cute image!
I love your post on Taos. It’s a magical town and even more magical when you can go with sisters.
I lived for a year in the Netherlands (Bergen Op Zoom) and saw everything you can imagine on bikes— from multiple school chums riding on the back book carrier to dads carrying home Christmas trees to a mom (while riding) changing her baby’s diaper. The Dutch are amazing. Last time hubby-dear and I were there we saw a bakfiets (http://bakfiets.nl/eng/) and he’s been on a quest ever since.
We also spent two weeks of our honeymoon on a tandem bike ride through Provence. It was great fun. Now we want to do it with the kids.
We should talk bikes!
And, family trips.
Looking forward to reading about your other adventures.
Happy pedaling.
Hi Lisa. I agree- the Dutch are amazing! I saw a bunch of bakfiets as well and love them. The kids just always seemed to so happy riding together in those because they could interact (kinda like a bike trailer). But I love how they ride in front so the parent can keep their eye on the kids and the kids can see everything going on. Genius!
Bike talk and family trip talk sounds great. I always need ideas for trip with kids— we traveled a lot before kids and now money is tighter and the chaos is greater. Makes it more challenging to find a trip that fits out lifestyle. -Jen

You may then be on a quest then too.
