The Kids of Summer

Summer. Swimming, exploring, star gazing, watermelon, sunscreen, barefoot, bicycles, lemonade stands, rolly pollies, popsicles, tree climbing, bbqs. This is summer to me. This is how I spent June, July and August as a kid; and look forward to reliving it through my own kids.

Joy over at Joy Beyond Fifty snapped some shots of her son and his friends at Hanalei Bay. These pics just brought me right back to my childhood and make me look forward to summer fun.

Jadah and Jen, thanks for sharing the special moments that these photos caught of our son, his friends, and our endless summers here on Kauai, Hawaii.

Raising children on this small island, give way to an very special way of life, that takes me back to the years of the 1960’s when I was a child. The 1960’s were years where life was much simpler than today, when children were given much more freedom to just be kids.

During my childhood many of today’s distractions from outdoor fun and imagination were not available. There were no personal computers, video games, cell phones, DVD’s or cable television, just to name a few. We relied on our imaginations, friends, siblings, and simple things to fill our summers.

Being a 51-year old mom of an 8-year old, I love the way Family Sponge features so many families of today, who live and share simple and nostalgic lifestyles and values.

Wishing you and your readers families tons of pure joy watching and playing with their little ones throughout their own endless summer, wherever in the world that may be.
