Green Smoothies: natural immunity booster

Boosting your immune system is a great way to stay healthy, especially during cold/flu season. The stronger your body is, the faster you get back on your feet. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables contain immune-boosting antioxidants. On top of that, you can add probiotics, olive leaf extract, and elderberry extract to keep you in fighting shape all winter long.  This smoothie is so easy, there is no room for excuses. Let’s get our families healthy right now!

Immune Booster Smoothie

2 cups spinach
1/4 cup carrots
1 banana
1/2 cups orange juice
1 cup water
2 cups frozen strawberries (I defrost them first because the flavor is more intense)
1/2 cup frozen blueberries

Additional immune boosters: powdered probiotics, olive leaf extract and elderberry extract (amount varies depending on how many people are drinking the smoothie)

Leia made me a delicious smoothie for my cold. I feel better already. It cleared my head, stopped my cough, cooled my fever, washed my car, called for pizza and made the mortgage payment. Seriously, it was great. Thanks.

Len, I am so happy the smoothie helped you! I recently went a week without green smoothies since I started blending in July last year, and I got sick by skipping my healthy blending habit. Getting as much fruits and green leafy vegetables in your body at least 5 days of week definitely keeps you healthy and helps prevent colds. I had not been sick since I started blending until I skipped too many days of smoothies. Hopefully Leia will keep making you green smoothies!

My toddler and I made this one tonight. He is under the weather with fever and cough and cold. Not having much appetite so smoothies are keeping him hydrated and hopefully boosting his immunity.

  1. Sweet Potato Green Smoothie Recipe - Simple Green Smoothies - October 31, 2012

[...] The produce in my CSA basket is changing colors just like the season. I can tell autumn is here because this week I got my first basket with sweet potatoes in it. We baked them all in the oven, ate some with butter and saved some for this week’s very special green smoothie recipe. I have been wanting to try this recipe (it’s one of Jadah’s favorites) and this was the week I had all the ingredients. It was like dessert— it’s that good. And it’s incredibly filling— I shared the smoothie with my husband and we both had a Thanksgiving party in our mouths. It was incredible (and didn’t taste a hint like spinach, which from the look of it is very surprising). If you aren’t quite sure what a green smoothie is, check out this article here.  [...]

  2. How to beat the flu and build your immunity naturally - Simple Green Smoothies - November 13, 2012

[...] Wet your hands with clean running water (warm or cold) and apply soap. Rub your hands together to make a lather and scrub them well; be sure to scrub the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails. Continue rubbing your hands for at least 20 seconds. Rinse your hands well under running water. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry.  So keep those hands clean and free of germs this flu season and if you have a child, teach them the Wash Them Clean Hands song!
