I finally decided to add coconut oil to my green smoothies…it’s delicious. Coconut oil is also a healthy fat which is awesome. Some people take a tablespoon a day to help with weight loss.
According to Dr. Oz, “Coconut oil improves calcium and magnesium absorption in the body, which in turn is greatly beneficial to dental and bone health. The improved calcium absorption created by coconut oil use ceases tooth decay and aids in the development of strong teeth.” So I think I’ll explore making a homemade coconut oil toothpaste next.
Trader Joe’s has an organic extra virgin coconut oil jar for $5.99 in California– that’s where I get mine, but you can also buy on Amazon too.
In this smoothie I also added broccoli and avocado, so this green smoothie is a tasty health monster powerhouse (your kids will love it too)! If you have leftovers, feel free to pour your extra smoothie into popsicle molds for a healthy treat.
Berry Tropical Green Smoothie Recipe
Broccoli is great for your body’s detoxification system. And if you have vitamin D deficiency, broccoli is your friend (also full of vitamins A and K). Slurp your veggies!
2 cups kale
2 cups water
1/2 cup fresh broccoli florets
2 cups frozen mango
2 cups fresh cut pineapple
1 cup fresh strawberries
2 bananas
1/2 avocado
squeeze of lime juice
2 Tbsp coconut oil (optional)
Directions
Blend kale, coconut oil and water first for 30 seconds (or until it is a juice-like consistency). Add frozen fruits 1 cup at a time and blend for an additional 30-45 seconds. Add remaining fresh fruits and blend until desired smoothness. Serve immediately for best texture and to receive optimal nutrients.
** FYI: Take it easy on the broccoli as it has a very strong taste. Add an additional banana to sweeten it up.

Can coconut water be used in place of water and coconut oil? Probably not tge same but thought I would ask.
Sandy, yes you can use coconut water in place of water. It tastes so yummy and full of natural electrolytes to keep your body hydrated. Most of our recipes call for 2 cups of water, almond milk or coconut water. You could also do 1 cup water and 1 cup coconut water.
Pure coconut water or flavored coconut water? Would flavored have extra sugar? Without coconut oil is okay? Do I need to adjust recipe if not using coconut oil or coconut oil is extra?
I use pure coconut water with no added sugars. Yes, flavor could add more sugar– just check the label to be sure. And coconut oil is optional, so you don’t have to change anything if you decide not to use it.
I was wondering if coconut milk can be used and if so, how much:-)
If you like the taste of coconut milk, you can use it as part of your liquid base. 1/4 cup to 1 cup, plus water if needed.
The picture above has strawberries and lime but the recipe doesn’t. Just wondering if you have made it with those items too.
I added a cup of strawberries and squeezed some lime juice. Thanks for catching that. I totally forgot to include that.
